Snl24 | CT City up to second after Ikapa Derby triumph

Cape Town City will finish the year in second spot on the DStv Premiership table after defeating Cape Town Spurs 2-0 in the Cape Derby on Sunday afternoon.
The Urban Warriors were unchanged from their 1-1 draw at AmaZulu, while the Citizens withdrew Luphumlo Sifumba for Relebohile Mokhuoane after their goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.
Spurs wasted a glorious chance on three minutes when Siyanda Msani connected with Rushwin Dortley’s left-footed cross and slammed wide from point-blank range.
The Citizens came to life thereafter as Jo Paciencia’s double effort in the matter of minutes from inside the area drew Neil Boshoff to a point-blank save and left the Urban Warriors unscaved.
However, Spurs were on the up once more ahead of the half-hour mark and saw Chumani Butsaka’s snap shot from close proximity led to a goal-mouth scramble before Darren Keet parried for a corner.
City, though, were more accurate and hit the front ten minutes before halftime when Mokhuoane curled a well-taken ball following a free-kick from a tight angle into the near post.
Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp turned to the bench ahead of the second period and decided to bring on Nicholus Lukhubeni in the place of veteran Clayton Daniels.
The Citizens could’ve doubled the lead minutes into the second half after a ball in the box rolled kindly for Jaedin Rhodes to finish from close-range, but he was parried by Boshoff.
It should’ve been two to the visitors later on when Ashley Cupido got wide of the area and curled wide across the face of goal.
Another decent chance came with 12 minutes to go as a low free-kick towards the bottom-corner from Keagan Buchanan forced Keet to a scrambled near post save.
The contest was settled in added time when Rhodes tapped in from close-range following a cutback from Daniels, as the Citizens returned to winning ways to end the year second on the table.
