Classes suspended at Zodwa Special School after two employees die on duty
JOHANNESBURG – Classes at the Zodwa Special School have been suspended after residents protested outside.
They’re accusing the school of not helping the families of employees who died as a result of the gas explosion on its premises.
The Gauteng Department of Education dismisses the claims, saying it’s doing all it can to assist the families.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says the community’s concerns are being addressed. However the Department has condemned the disruptive behavior by the residents, which led to classes being suspended for the day.
The alleged perpetrator behind the gas explosion is expected to appear in court again on 1 September.
He is currently in police custody. Meanwhile, the Department of education says it will work with the aggrieved residents to ensure classes resume on Monday.
