Eagles’ Nick Sirianni Has No Plans to Change Play-Callers Before Playoffs
Elsa/Getty ImagesNick Sirianni does not plan to change his play-callers before the playoffs, the Philadelphia Eagles head coach said Monday, per the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.
Despite limping through the end of the regular season, Sirianni has no intention of switching things up. The Eagles lost their regular-season finale on Sunday to the New York Giants, marking their fifth loss in their final six games of the year.
Philadelphia will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round on Jan. 15.
The Eagles looked strong through the first few months of the season, heading into December 10-1. After that, the struggles began and Philadelphia closed out the season with several embarrassing losses, including the final two games where the Eagles lost to the Arizona Cardinals and the Giants.
The ugly stretch of games cost the Eagles a shot at potentially earning the top seed in the NFC. They still had a chance to win the NFC East on Sunday, but they needed a win and for the Dallas Cowboys to lose, neither of which happened.
Now, instead of earning the top seed or the chance to host, they’ll have to take on the Buccaneers on the road, and it won’t be an easy game. Tampa Bay ended its season winning five of its last six games, and the Buccaneers are looking to keep the success going against the Eagles.
The Eagles cruised to a 25-11 win over the Bucs in Week 3, but the two teams’ momentum is swinging in opposite directions now.
Philadelphia’s struggles have been on both sides of the ball, but the defense has been especially concerning. In December, the Eagles moved to Matt Patricia taking over defensive play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Sean Desai. Since that switch, the Eagles have given up 20 or more points in all four of their games.
The Eagles still have hope on offense with Jalen Hurts under center and AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith receiving his passes, but they will need a big game from the offense to avoid going one-and-done in the playoffs.
