The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been seeded in the same group with Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and AFCON 2023 host, Côte d’Ivoire

The head coach of the Ivory Coast national team, Jean-Louis Gassée, has provided an injury update regarding Borussia Dortmund’s Sébastien Haller, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former France youth international had been hopeful of a timely recovery from his ankle injury for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Montpellier-born coach has revealed that Haller’s rehabilitation progress is promising, and he might return to face the Super Eagles following their initial encounter with Guinea-Bissau on January 13.

This Saturday, at the Laurent Pokou stadium in San Pedro, Côte d’Ivoire is set to take on Sierra Leone in a friendly match as part of their preparations for the AFCON tournament.

Ahead of this fixture, Coach Gasset provided an update on Sébastien Haller and Simon Adingra, both of whom were hopeful to bolster the Ivory Coast squad for the tournament.

“Everything is going well for Haller and Adingra. Their healing dates coincided with the end of the first round of the CAN. But here, we are progressing well. We will do exams when we return to Abidjan on Sunday. And I think that from there, they will start the collective training sessions,” he said, as quoted by Mondial Sports.

The Elephants are set to commence their group phase against Guinea-Bissau, followed by matches against Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
