The New York Jets defensive end is set to hit free agency after his rookie contract expired following the season. He is coming off of a breakthrough season that saw him register 10 sacks and establish himself as a game-breaking pass-rusher.

While the prospect of returning to a Jets team with increased expectations next year could be exciting, Huff is focusing on securing the best contract and is not willing to throw a bone to his current team.

“I’m not giving any discount,” Huff said, per Brian Costello of the New York Post. “I worked so hard. I feel like I owe it to myself and my family and the people around me to maximize my earnings. I’m definitely open to every scenario and every team. I just want to do what’s best for me at the end of the day.”

Huff entered the regular-season finale against the New England Patriots with eight sacks but was able to get two more to earn double digits on the season. He finished the season with 29 total tackles and 19 total quarterback hits.

This sets him up to be a highly sought-after player in free agency, especially considering he plays an in-demand position. The Jets will not necessarily have much to work with in the offseason, as they are projected to have just a little north of $16 million to work with, per Spotrac.

While there may be some room to play with the cap, Huff’s declaration of seeking the highest contract means that the chances are high he is playing elsewhere next season. This could also change some strategies for various teams, especially those needing to fill multiple holes.

Huff will be exploring his market, and the 25-year-old will certainly have plenty of suitors.
