Seven people have drowned at Cape Town beaches since the start of December, with another person still missing.
Three of the incidents took place on New Year’s Day, traditionally one of the busiest days at Cape Town beaches. At Sonwabe Beach in Pelican Park, an 18-year-old and 24-year-old man drowned, and a 28-year-old man went missing at sea.
The other incidents took place at Kogel Bay, Clifton 4th, Strandfontein, Lagoon, and Wolfgat beaches during December.
