Racing 92 deny Farrell agreement amid reports of move from Saracens

Racing 92 have denied reports that there has been an agreement to bring England fly-half Owen Farrell to the Top 14 league in the summer. Such a move would bring to an end Farrell’s 16-year association with Saracens and potentially spell the end of his time with England. Owen Farrell is reported to be in talks with Racing 92 over a move to the French club from Gallagher Premiership Rugby side Saracens in the summer.
The fly-half has been on Saracens’ books since 2008, but French outlet L’Equipe is reporting that the 32-year-old is in “very advanced discussions” to make the move to Racing 92.
L’Equipe went on to state that “the contract has not been signed but a positive outcome is hoped for in the coming days about a three-season contract”.
Racing 92 issued a statement on Friday evening saying no agreement was in place with Farrell.
“Racing is regularly the subject of widespread speculation,” the statement read. “We are delighted with the appeal of our club Racing 92.
“However, we deny any agreement with the English player Owen Farrell.”
Racing stopped short of a firm denial, and should a move materialise it would come as a huge blow to Saracens and England.
“We’re all hopeful he’ll return to the England team at some point soon, but that’s going to be a decision that Owen makes,” Borthwick said.
“I am really hopeful that he does return. I think we all hope, as England supporters we all hope he does – this is one of England’s greatest-ever players, greatest-ever captains.”
A move to Racing 92 would dash those hopes as players must turn out for teams in the UK to be considered for the national side.
Should Farrell join the Top 14 side, it would see him reunite with Stuart Lancaster.
The current coach of Racing 92 handed Farrell his England debut in 2012.
