Renowned photographer Peter Magubane has passed away
JOHANNESBURG – Renowned anti-apartheid photographer, Peter Magubane has died.
Details of his passing are still sketchy, but his passing comes just a few weeks before his 92nd birthday.
Magubane is well known for his photographic career which started during South Africa’s struggle for democracy.
The iconic photographer worked for Drum Magazine, covering most of the major political events in the country, including Sharpeville and the Rivonia Trial.
His coverage of the 1976 student uprisings saw him internationally acclaimed, winning him numerous international awards.
He’s also known for being a close friend of the late Nelson and Winnie Mandela.
