Samsung’s fascinating new monitors can connect wirelessly via pogo pins

Samsung announced a mysterious new monitor at CES 2024 called The Link — and even though it wasn’t seen in person, they looked absolutely fascinating in the photo that was shared.

Very little information was given about them, but here’s what we do know: The Link monitors are “the world’s thinnest and lightest 4K 32-inch LED monitors,” and can “daisy-chain” together using pogo pins. That means connecting these monitors together would be completely wireless. The problem Samsung is attempting to solve is to make the display in multi-monitor setups less “uneven” and “mismatched.”

That is — that’s what Samsung originally published about The Link. The company quickly sent out an edited description to journalists, removing the claims that it was world’s thinnest and lightest, saying now only that is “super-thin.” More than that, any mention of pogo pins has been removed as well, only stating now that The Link monitors can connect to each “without a separate cable.”

Samsung has been tight-lipped about this product, so it’s hard to know how to take the corrections. Lest you think this is merely a concept, though, The Link did win an Innovation Award from CES as a real product, where is where the description was originally posted. For now, we’ll have to wait to hear more until we know if The Link uses pogo pins to connect or not.

Based on the one photo that was provided, The Link has an interesting design too. The screens look remarkably thin, with a flat metal base. The monitors can then line up with one another — presumably by pogo pins located in the bottom chin, which also acts as the stand. It’s just a rendering, of course, but if they end up with a design like this, they’ll certainly be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

A lot more needs to be known about The Link, but I’ll always appreciate sleek and fresh designs that do something new. Obviously, we’ll be waiting to hear more about The Link in the future, including its price and release date.

Samsung brings a 2023 update to its M8 smart monitors

Samsung has announced its latest lineup of Smart Monitors, which includes the M8, M7, and M5 models.

The model numbers for each smart monitor are M80C, M70C, and M50C respectively. Samsung notes that the 2023 lineup has a focus on increased productivity, personalized experience, and entertainment.

After announcing 2023’s Odyssey Neo G7 earlier this year, Samsung finally revealed the price for the display. The 43-inch mini-LED monitor runs $1,000, and listings are live now. Unfortunately, it has some stiff competition from the best gaming monitors.

It’s a significant size increase over last year’s version, jumping from 32 inches to 43 inches while maintaining a 16:9 aspect ratio. Samsung says the panel has a 144Hz refresh rate and 1 millisecond response time, as well as DisplayHDR 600 certification from VESA and Samsung’s own HDR10+ certification.

Samsung’s first QD-OLED gaming monitor might be dead on arrival

Samsung’s first QD-OLED gaming monitor is available now. First announced in August 2022, the Odyssey OLED G8 is a 34-inch ultrawide gaming display sporting QD-OLED technology, but it has a problem — we’ve already had this same monitor for nearly a year.

Here’s a quick rundown on the specs. The Odyssey OLED G8 is a 34-inch QD-OLED monitor with a 3,440 x 1,440 resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a 175Hz refresh rate. It also comes with some nifty features like up to 65 watts of USB power delivery, and it’s earned VESA’s DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification.
