Former Mamelodi Sundowns development coach Floyd Mogale has lamented the change in Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mduduzi Shabalala’s game since he got promoted to the club’s first team.

Shabalala’s trajectory in recent years has been nothing short of spectacular.
Having worked his way through the Chiefs development, Shabalala earned himself an opportunity to spend time with Spanish outfit Villareal after he was named the u17 Cosafa Cup Player of the Tournament in 2020. He then caught the attention of Belgian side KVC Westerlo, where he spent time on trials.
He was promoted to the Chiefs first team in 2021, though he is yet to establish himself as a regular.

Renowned development coach Mogale is of the opinion that Shabalala’s lack of impact is due to the change in his game, which has seen his natural flair diminish.
“There’s Mduduzi [Shabalala] at Chiefs, he’s no longer the same. He plays like a robot now, he gets the ball and he passes it. He doesn’t eliminate players anymore and he doesn’t dribble anymore, you need those kind of players,” he told the Siya crew at the Philly’s Games draw in Tembisa.
Shabalala has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Chiefs this season, and has managed to register just one assist.
