West Ham suffer setback after Paqueta ruled out until February with calf injury

West Ham United striker Lucas Paqueta is facing an extended period on the sidelines with a calf injury. The Brazil international has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium this month. However, this latest fitness concern will keep him out of action until the transfer window has closed at the start of February, with a return to first team football not likely over the next month.Lucas Paqueta of West Ham United reacts before being substituted due to injury during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between West Ham United and Bristol City at London Stadium on January 07, 2024 in London, England.

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta will see a specialist over a troublesome calf injury that will keep him out of action for the rest of January.
The Brazil international limped off after just 14 minutes during Sunday’s FA Cup third-round clash against Bristol City.
It’s the second time the problem has flared up in recent weeks, having also been substituted during a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in late December.
And now the club are seeking further advice on the injury, which will see him spend a further four weeks on the sidelines.
The news come as another blow to David Moyes’ side, who are already without Michail Antonio due to a knee concern, while Mohammed Kudus is away with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.
On top of their absences, Jarrod Bowen also picked up an ankle problem at Ashton Gate at the weekend that means he will miss at least four weeks of football.
The injury blow for Paqueta may scupper any potential move away from the London Stadium this month.
Manchester City were interested in signing him last summer, as they looked for a replacement for Riyad Mahrez.
The player ruled himself out of leaving the Hammers at the start of the season, and he has gone on to score five goals in 27 matches during the 2023/24 campaign.
West Ham, on other hand, may be forced into the market themselves as they look to bolster their attacking options.
Moyes, however, has already admitted funds will be tight during the window, having stated earlier this month: “I don’t think we’ll have much money to spend. It will depend on what the outgoings are.”
